The Significance of Blood in The Bible

The Significance Of Blood In The Bible

Blood is a powerful symbol in the Bible. From the earliest pages of the Book of Genesis, it is clear that blood plays an important role in God’s plan for humanity.

When Cain killed his brother Abel, God asked him:

“What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”

Genesis 4:10 (NKJV)

Later, in the Book of Leviticus, we see the importance of blood in the sacrificial system of the Israelites. The blood of animals was used to atone for sin and to make things holy.

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

Leviticus 17:11 (NKJV)

But the blood of animals was only a temporary solution. It could cover sin, but it could not remove it.

It took the blood of Jesus Christ, the perfect and spotless Lamb of God, to truly cleanse us from sin and make us holy.

The writer of the Book Hebrews tells us:

“In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”

Hebrews 9:22 (NIV)

Jesus’ blood was the only sacrifice that could truly pay the price for our sins and reconcile us to God.

So what is it about the blood of Jesus that makes it so powerful?

Jesus’ blood represents His life, His sacrifice, and His love for us.

When we are washed in the blood of Jesus, we are cleansed from our sins and made holy. We are no longer slaves to sin, but we are free to live a new life in Christ.

6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”

Romans 6:6-7 (NIV)

The blood of Jesus also has protective power. In Exodus 12, the Israelites were instructed to apply the blood of a lamb on their doorposts to protect them from the plague that was coming.

In the same way, when we apply the blood of Jesus to our lives, we are protected from the attacks of the enemy.

Satan cannot touch us because we are covered by the blood of Jesus.

The Cleansing Power of The Blood of Jesus

We are made new and our sins are washed away. We can come before God with confidence, knowing that we are forgiven and cleansed by the blood of His Son, a lamb without blemish.

But the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus goes beyond just forgiveness. It also transforms us from the inside out.

When we are washed in the blood of Jesus, we are given a new heart and a new nature. We are no longer slaves to sin, but we are free to live a life of righteousness and holiness.

The blood of Jesus has the power to change us from the inside out and make us more like Christ.

The Redemptive Power of The Blood of Jesus

The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ

The blood of Jesus also has redemptive power. When Jesus shed his blood on the cross, he paid the price for our sins and redeemed us from the curse of the law.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”).

Galatians 3:13 (NKJV)

We are no longer under the condemnation of the law but we are free to live a life of grace and freedom in Christ.

The blood of Jesus also gives us access to the throne of God. In Hebrews 10:19-22, we are told that because of the blood of Jesus, we can enter the Most Holy Place with confidence.

19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
